ASE Safety Academy has prepared a dedicated e-learning course titled:
Electrical and Non-Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Areas – Basic Knowledge
This training covers the types of protection used for electrical and mechanical equipment designed for use in explosive atmospheres. We will explain the meaning of each part of the explosion protection marking found on the nameplate of equipment intended for hazardous areas, along with detailed discussions of individual types of protection.
The course curriculum includes, among others, the following topics:
- Nameplate marking
- Explosion protection marking (Ex marking)
- Hazardous area zones and equipment categories
- Types of protection for electrical equipment (in accordance with IEC 60079)
- Types of protection for non-electrical equipment (in accordance with ISO 80079)
- Explosion groups (Gas and Dust Groups)
- Temperature classes (T-class)
- Equipment Protection Levels (EPL)
The training concludes with a final exam, which can be retaken multiple times. A certificate is awarded upon passing with a minimum score of 70%.
Upon completing the course, the participant will:
- Have a solid understanding of the basic types of protection used in explosion-proof equipment;
- Be able to read and interpret the Ex marking of both electrical and non-electrical equipment used in hazardous areas;
- Understand, at a basic level, how to select equipment appropriate to a given hazardous area zone.
